About me

27 year-old actor, director, and writer, with a varied range of experience. From Shakespeare to Pinter, physical theatre to panto, Restoration to Jacobean tragedy, and modern comedy to TIE, I have enjoyed a vast number of leading and supporting roles in the last 10 years. Won the Drama Prize at the University of the West of England in 2009. Have toured the UK and abroad, and involved in successful productions at the Edinburgh Fringe, Bristol Shakespeare Festival, Belarus International Festival, among others. Am Associate Artist at York-based company, Theatre Mill, who specialise in site-specific, immersive, and promenade productions.

Additional Information

Recent directing credits include: the premiere of John Reid's 'Pots' at the Alma Tavern in Bristol and 'The Real Inspector Hound' & 'Black Comedy' at the Edinburgh Fringe. Also: 'Dancing at Lughnasa', 'Night Terror', The Importance of Being Earnest, 'Glengarry Glen Ross' and 'Betrayal', which went on to enjoy a short sell-out run at the Burton-Taylor Studio, Oxford, in June 2008.

Other productions whilst in Youth Theatres, credits while training, and at the University's Drama Society include: 'The Country Wife' (Pinchwife); 'Three Sisters' (Tuzenbach); 'Tartuffe' (Madame Pernelle); 'The Vackies' at Dartington Hall (various); 'Oliver Twist' (Fagin/Mr Giles); 'The Demon Headmaster - The Musical' (Demon Headmaster); 'Our Day Out' (Milton); 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (Bottom); 'The Golden Pathway Annual' (Roger/The Head/Collins/Officer/Various); 'Robin Hood - Prince of Sleaze' (Sir Guy/Lady Morgana).

REVIEWS:

"…slick…engaging…clarity of the actors' intentions mean one is rarely confused…outstanding moments of performance from Sam Wood, Jessica Bayly and Adam Elms…" **** The Stage, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, August 2010.

"…the multi-talented and convincing Adam Elms…managed to weave his spell over the audience…" The Herald Express, The Demon Headmaster - The Musical, March 2005.

"…luckily, Adam Elms as Jean is terrific. With rasping voice, wide eyes, and limbs from the David Byrne school of movement, it's a genuinely alarming transformation." **** Venue, 'Rhinoceros',
March 2009.

"UWE Drama Department serve it up nicely…enjoy this mutilation banquet for the hell it is…" *** British Theatre Guide, 'Cleansed', August 2008.

"…Adam Elms captivates, a joyous mess of facial tics and erupting nervous energy…" *** Venue, 'The Ugly One', February 2009.

"…excellent cast…Adam Elms as a superbly slimy surgeon and an opportunistic boss…" Bristol Evening Post, 9/10, 'The Ugly One', February 2009.

"...ably supported with excellent performances from Adam Elms as the puffed-up, hand-wringing inspector...a challenging play to perform and the cast did a great job and the injection of fun and humour from their singing brought hearty laughs." 7/10, Bristol Evening Post, 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist', March 2012.

"Elms injects some sharp comedy into the analytic Tupolski...the actors performed with skill, in particular...Elms, flitting from good cop to bad cop in the blink of a comedy roll of the eyes." Bristol Culture, 'The Pillowman', June 2011.

"In this excellent version by UWE's in-house company...Adam Jones as the aggressively determined Ariel and Adam Elms as the sardonic pedant Tupolski carry off much of the play's humour. At the same time, their tension-fraught interaction offers an interesting parallel, and contrast..." **** Venue, 'The Pillowman', June 2011.
