About me

Ian came to acting quite late after training as a nursery teacher and ending up as a headteacher. Recent credits include playing Polonius in Hamlet at the Pack and Carriage (Fox & Chips) Edie in ‘The Blue Tent’ as part of the Bare Essentials in the West End (Encompass Productions), new writing night and Isaiah Berlin in ‘Like A Chemist From Canada’ (EdmissionsUK Productions). He played Neville in Mike kenny’s‘Bag Dancing’(Theatre BlahBlahBlah). He has also strayed into film/TV work most unrecogniseably: as the Winter Blue’s Monster (promo for Ant & Dec’s Saturday Takeaway, ITV) and more obviously as the Foley artist in ‘The Foley Artist’( Feast Films & Just A little Productions). He is delighted to be appearing in Five Kinds of Silence at the Ecetera in September.

Additional Information

I am a flexible actor who always prepares thoroughly and responds well to direction.

Others tell me that I bring intensity, naturalism and credible expression to my performances. I can also be funny, move well and improvise.

Additional Skills

I enjoy singing and can play tunes on a tin whistle.
I have in my ordinary working life been a headteacher, a fine art painter, a builder and decorator, gallery technician, civil servant, a book seller and have communicated with a broad range of different audiences, and have a broad personal social experience of the world including knowledge of issues around child protection, mental health and other aspects of social and economic disadvantage, religious cults and meditation and I believe this would help me in playing many types of role.
