About me
A multi-award winning actress, Nihaarika Negi is an explorer of the daily. And a seeker of the extra-daily.She has trained under the renowned theatre practitioner/pedagogue Phillip Zarrilli at the University of Exeter, in the psychophysical acting methodology whilst completing her MA in Physical Performance and Actor-Training (2011).
A diverse and intuitive performer she has worked in various mediums from theatrical works, site-specific/devised pieces, live art and performance to films. Nihaarika has gained valuable experience by working with distinguished theatre-makers like Howard Barker & The Wrestling School in 'Blok/Echo' (2011); with the critically-acclaimed Artist/Director Mark Storor on ARTSADMIN's 'Skin Of My Teeth' (2012); with the LOTOS Collective, during a residency at the BARBICAN (2012); and with the award-winning Artist Rosanna Cade in 'Walking:Holding' at Paccitti Company's SPILL Festival(2012). She is a part-of the 'Spoken Word Ensemble,' led by Jerwood Award Winning theatre director Yael Shavit and Spoken Word Artist Polarbear at the ROUNDHOUSE and is performing with Needless Alley in 'Cabaret Voltaire' at the famous KING'S HEAD theatre. She has recently completed playing the lead in her first feature - Big Boy Productions & NMK Media's 'The Anglistanis.'
Often (mis)taken for ethnically ambiguous, she is an Indian actress living in London. Back home, she was twice honoured with the Best Supporting Actor Award for her role as Nell in Beckett's Endgame, at Thespo 8 - India's leading youth theatre festival. She was then selected as one of the 8 contestants from all over the country to represent her college in FOX's music network Channel [V] 's talent competition 'Campus Star.' The show garnered over 2.7 million votes and she won the title of 'Channel [V] Campus Star.' An award for Best Actor was given to her in another national acting competition held by CNBC-TV 18.
In Mumbai, she has worked with theatre greats like Eve Ensler, Mahabanoo-Moody Kotwal and Jaimini Pathak and performed at prestigious venues like TATA, NCPA Experimental and Prithvi.
She is bilingual but likes to think language often occurs beyond words and would love to speak in forgotten tongues with her audience and collaborators.
