About me

I began my career at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, where I performed in the works of O'Casey, Synge, Yeats and Shakespeare.

Since moving to London in the mid-80s I've worked for leading theatre and television companies in England.

PRESS CUTTINGS

The Supper Party
"Seamus Newham's enjoyably bombastic performance as theatrical knight Rudolph Treglown" - One Stop Arts.

... "Newham manages to maintain a delicate balance of suitable flamboyance with genuine depth and human frailty" - Everything Theatre

Presidential Suite
"In a class apart from the rest, Seamus Newham is the charmingly arrogant Ivy League lawyer Jordan Pershing. Newham's aged appearance and constant stage presence set up his character to create a motive of devilish calm and fine restraint of exaggerated emotions.". Alexander Lerche - Festival Journal

The Shallow End
"...with both Seamus Newham and Louise Templeton acquitting themselves brilliantly". Stewart Pringle - Exeunt Magazine.

" The third scene is the best, in which Seamus Newham's old pro political editor goes from cocky complacency to quiet meltdown after the Westminister world that has been his life for decades is callously snatched away from him." Andrzej Lukowski - Time Out

Seamus Newham ... "brilliant timing as Toop, the Political editor" Aline Waites - Remotegoat

Ghosts
"Seamus Newham plays Engstrand with a keen eye for humour. In act two, finding himself seated opposite a glass of his mistress's champagne, his face enacts a hilarious dance of tortured longing." Lloyd Evans - The Spectator

Example: The Case of Craig and Bentley
"The juiciest opportunity for pomposity is gifted to Seamus Newham's Lord Goddard. Quivering with righteousness, he instructs the jury to hang Bentley." James Christopher - The Times

Phaedra
"Seamus Newham, as the King offers brief awesome snapshots of instinctive rage and wretched awareness." The Guardian.

"... the words are often thrilling, never more so than when Theseus (Seamus Newham) proceeds to bring down the fury of the gods on his son." Jane Edwards - Time Out

The Vanek Plays
"The Maltster is superbly played by Seamus Newham." The Observer
