Butterfly Theatre

Finding unique and inspiring locations to set our site-responsive work in is at the core of what Butterfly create. We look for the brilliant and the beautiful when we search for new places to tour to, ensuring that each show responds to its surroundings, making every performance different from the last.

Our actors are trained in the Meisner Technique, meaning that being alive and responsive to their constantly changing surroundings is one of the company's strengths, setting us apart from other theatre companies.

Since the company was formed in 2011, Butterfly have worked across the UK and - since 2014, Germany - in a host of unusual spaces including Kents Cavern (Torquay), Teifburg in Heidelburg (Germany), Ugly Duck warehouse space (London), Puzzlewood (Forest of Dean) and even aboard a fleet of boats in Leigh Woods (Bristol) in collaboration with Visual Artist Luke Jerram and his National Trust commissioned art installation Withdrawn.
