Chris Barfoot
Mini Biography

Multi award-winning director Chris Barfoot has produced classic shorts for several years. Barfoot's films have aired with ITV, NBC Universal Sci/Fi Channel and Sky Movies etc.

Winning two 'Platinum Remis' and two 'Golds' in the US led Barfoot to invest the last couple of years developing screenplays in preparation for his pending feature slate.

Born in Southampton, England on September the 7th 1966, Chris Barfoot attended school in Swanmore, Hampshire and college in Cosham, Portsmouth.

He recently celebrated the relocation of his own company, Anglo American Pictures, to the prestigious Ealing Studios and has two completed scripts, ready to shoot soon.

Chris has had a great deal of success with short movies, selling through to SKY, Sci/Fi Channel, and ITV, but, at last is poised for a quantum leap from directing short films to taking on full-length features, and has two film scripts in an advanced state of development. Encouragement came recently with another of Barfoot's award winning short films, the horror/fantasy production of 'The Reckoning' which received the highest 'Sky Movies' viewing figures of all time, as part of the channel's 'Sky Shorts' season and is currently playing out with NBC Universal's Sci/Fi Channel until Jan 2008. The film was well received at the Cannes Film Festival and won another Gold Remi at the Worldfest film festival, which is held in Houston, Texas, USA.

Barfoot's love of film really began with the space-western: Star Wars, But HIS own aspirations to become a film director were only realised much later. Upon leaving school he spent a couple of years in construction and then with steel, working in Scandinavia and the Canary Islands with his father (John), erecting petrol station canopies. When he returned to the UK he attempted to realise his primary ambition - to become an actor or a Television presenter. The inexperienced Chris failed a RADA audition and sought out Lee Peck (another RADA failure), and ex TV presenter living in Southampton, seeking advice. He was told to start at the bottom, by joining hospital radio as a presenter - so he joined Winchester's Hospitals Radio. He presented for a year and then quit to go back to college on a two year media course as a mature student. He enrolled at Highbury College, Portsmouth, where lecturer Andy Birtwhistle was a big influence - it was Andy who inspired him to become a filmmaker.

After college he picked up work as a regular extra /actor on the Ruth Rendall's and better parts on a few movies, Sudden Fury, Fit For Nothing and Distant Shadow.

Chris left Highbury with a National Diploma in Media Design in 1991 and started shooting 'tape' projects. He began shooting film in 1996, writing and producing his first professional short film "Phoenix" starring Prunella Scales the same year. Next came a short film starring Shane Richie called Dead Clean. It was shot in 1998 with Shane cast opposite Andrew Sachs.
