Dark Theatre

Dark Theatre was started by Rachael Black in 2005 to be a forum for expression, invention and artistic creativity. After the first couple of years being an extensive period of research and development and the addition of the culmination of ten years of personal experience in the theatre and television industries, I decided to take Dark Theatre into its next phase in 2007. I believe that theatre can be and should be a medium through which people can be changed, not just the transformation of the actor but the audience and their own perceptions.

Our projects are the kind of work that everyone should be able to access, unrestricted by the boundaries that are so often imposed upon art and its audiences. Terms such as 'political correctness' and 'commercial viability' are not within our remit as we believe in presenting an honest and frank reflection of the world around us and pushing the barriers forward to create a new way in British theatre.

Energy and positivity are our main impetus and no subject, style or theme is forbidden to explore. Being genuinely interested in other people and their behaviour is in my nature and I hope that that foundation will be the basis of all our work, exploding and extrapolating the human condition and examining the results with compassion, humour and always with a Dark twist.
